Buxa Tiger Reserve

The Buxa National Park is located in West Bengal, India. Inside the national park there is the 760 km² Buxa Tiger Reserve. The Sinchula hill range is located in the northern side of Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR) and the Eastern boundary touches that of the Assam State. National Highway No.31 C roughly runs along its southern boundary.

In the Reserve 390 species of birds, 73 species of mammals, 76 species of snakes, 5 species of amphibians have been found so far. In 2006 a survey was done where it was found that BTR has the highest number of fish species in the North Bengal region.

Apart from tigers animals like Elephants, Bears, Civets, Giant Squirrel, Gaur, Chital, clouded leopard, Wild Buffaloes, Antelope and Snakes including the Regal Python are found here.

About 230 species of birds and butterflies add colour and charm to the forest. Two new species of frog have been discovered in the park in the year 2006.
One can have a park safari by car or jeep by taking permission from the Forest Office at Rajabhatkhawa or at Jayanti.

How to get there-

Nearest airport is Bagdogra which is 195 km away. Alipurduar Junction and New Alipurduar is another means of rail transport. If you want to travel by road NH 31 is the main highway. You can even hire a car from Alipurduar.

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

Mount Abu is the highest peak in the Aravalli Range of Rajasthan state in western India. Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Aravalli range of mountains. In 1960 it was declared as a wildlife sanctuary.

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is very rich in flora and fauna. The flora of the sanctuary consists about 112 plant families with 449 genera and 820 species. Out of which, 663 species are dicots while 157 species are monocots.

Mount Abu is the only place in Rajasthan where one can come across a variety of orchids. The place is also rich in bryophytes and algae. The south-western part of this sanctuary is very rich in bamboo forests.

You can see 81 species of trees, 89 species of shrubs, 28 species of climbers and 17 species of tuberous plants in this sanctuary. A huge variety of fauna, that includes highly rare, threatened and endangered species.

With lion and tigers presently leopard is the apex predator of the sanctuary. Other animals found are sambhar, jungle cat, small Indian civet, wolf, hyaena, jackal, Indian fox, common langoor, wild boar, pangolin, common mongoose, Indian hare, porcupine and hedgehog, sloth bear too.

Nagarhole National Park

Nagarhole National Park also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is located in Karnataka in South India. This national park is spread between Kodagu district and Mysore district.

Gray langurs, lion-tailed macaques and bonnet macaques represent the primates in the national park. On the surrounding hills outside the park occurre Nilgiri tahrs and Nilgiri langurs.

If you want some thrill, some change in life, than river rafting for sure can add spice to your desires. White water rafting is a high-altitude, water adventure.

Persons suffering from a weak heart, epilepsy, diabetes, or any other serious ailments or expecting mothers are not permitted to do this sport. Non-swimmers may be restricted to certain sections of the river.

The main equipment that you have to take along is a raft which is made of special materials. Rafts mainly have inflatable compartments with vulcanized rubber bodies reinforced by nylon fabric and neoprene which enables the raft to go over sharp rocks without tearing. The clubs and organizers through which you participate can make you available with a raft. Other kits include life jackets and helmets.

Other than these a sleeping bag, sneakers, light synthetic quick drying clothes for the river, swimsuit, shorts and T-shirts, sun shades or glasses, suntan lotion, a torch and two pairs of shoes must be carried while you go for this sport.

There is no fixed time to be a part of this sport. But still you have a stretch of around 8 months starting from May to November to participate in in white water rafting.

The major destinations for water rafting is the Devprayag to Rishikesh which is the venue of this young sport. Uttar Pradesh has many other sites where one can go river rafting. In Garhwal, the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers provide excellent river-rafting opportunities.

In Kumaon, the river Sharda or also known as Kali Ganga flows down from Nepal to meet the Gori River at Jauljivi. Other sites for white-water rafting include Barkot to Lakha Mandal and Damta to Yamuna Bridge on the river Yamuna, Mori to Tuni on the river Tons, Kalisor to Srinagar and Srinagar to Bagwan on river Alaknanda, Ghansali to Gadolia on the river Bhilangana, Chandrapuri to Rudraprayag on the river Mandakini, and many stretches along the river Bhagirathi.

Sikkim also offers good river opportunities for rafting. The Teesta and Rangeet are two major rivers on which river rafting is possible. Makha-Sirwani-Bardang-Rongpo on the Teesta and Sikip-Jorethang-Majitar-Melli on the Rangeet are the two major stretches for water rafting. Beginners can also enjoy white-water rafting wearing life jackets and crash helmet for precaution.

Try to study the river stretch from the land to decide on the grade before becoming a part of the sport. Also avoid breathing when you are going under a rapid or when you are submerged. Wearing synthetic clothes, sarees, or dupattas are not recommended. Natural cotton products will be very helpful.

Hazaribagh National Park

Hazaribagh National Park which is approximately 135 km away from Ranchi is also a sanctuary surrounded with scenic beauties. The park is easily approachable by all weather metalled road. The most easily and often spotted animals near the waterholes are Cheetal, Kakar, Nilgai, Sambar and Wild Boar. The population of the tigers is very less and are difficult to sight.

Best time to visit Hazaribagh national park is in the monsoon months of July to mid-September. Offering a perfect accommodation facilities there is a small tourist lodge that comprises of four single rooms at the national park and next to it is a canteen. At a short distance the tourist will find a Forest Rest house with a complete suite.

The nearest airport Ranchi is connected with Calcutta, Patna, Lucknow and Delhi by regular Indian Airlines flights. The nearest railway station is Koderma, If you want to go by road than Hazaribagh town by road is very well connected to Ranchi, Dhanbad, Gaya, Patna, Daltongunj, and Calcutta.
